About This Wine

If you’ve ever had a classic Cote Rotie, you’re going to love this wine.

Jeff Cohn, the owner of JC Cellars, formerly made wine for Rosenblum Cellars. While there, he developed relationships with some of California’s top growers, whom he now taps when sourcing grapes for his various Rhone-style bottlings. Napa Valley’s Caldwell Vineyard provided the fruit for this 2006 Syrah.

“Caldwell Vineyard sits 500 feet above sea level, giving panoramic views of Napa Valley,” Cohn says. “Grapes were first planted at the Caldwell site in 1982 with cuttings brought into the country using ‘creative’ means.”

Cohn took full advantage of the wonderful Caldwell Vineyard fruit to craft a dense, beautifully balanced wine. Like the best wines of Cote Rotie, its nose is brimming with lavender and earth notes. And like the best Napa Valley wines, it offers abundant fruit in the mouth. It’s like getting the best of France and California in a single bottle.

About Syrah

Very dark, rich, powerful wines with great aging potential (as long as 50 years), yet still can be drunk relatively young. Distinct pepper, spice, cherry and leather flavors, with smooth, supple texture. Embodied in majestic wines from France, Australia and, increasingly, California.
