About This Wine
Zinfandel grapes like heat, and the Arroyo Grande Valley is hot.
Part of the vast Central Coast growing region in California, Arroyo Grande Vineyard is located near Sausalito Canyon. That’s where Michael and Kim DePaola planted a 2-acre vineyard and built their home on an expanse of land encompassing 45 acres.
The vineyard sits on a south-facing slope, so the vines get plenty of sunshine year-round. The sometimes extreme temperature spikes during the summer months help assure that their Zinfandel grapes ripen fully. The first wine-worthy fruit was harvested in 2004, and the wines have been getting better and better ever since.
Most of the DePaola Vineyard production goes to the family’s restaurant in Santa Barbara, Emilio’s; it’s rare for the wine to be available at the retail level. But the Elevant Society pulled a few strings and secured an allotment for club members. It’s a big, bold, expressive wine... and a truly hot deal.
California's own grape variety. Red Zinfandel (not to be confused with "white" Zinfandel) can produce full-bodied wines packed with ripe berry fruit and smooth tannins. Flavors of blackberries and spicy pepper.

Cabernet Sauvignon Ice Cream Our friends at Alexander Valley Vineyards came up with this wonderful recipe a few years ago. We've tried it with Cabernet Sauvignon (as the recipe calls for), as well as Merlot, Primitivo, Cabernet Franc and Zinfandel... and every time, it turns out delicious! It's best made with an ice cream maker, and if you have such a machine, it's extremely easy to assemble. Enjoy! Get The Recipe
