Ah, the romance of the wine business...
The year was 1992, and Keith and ReNae Pilgrim, looking for a way to spend more time together, decided to plant grapevines and open a winery. It seemed like a natural thing to do, since Keith had grown up in the Napa Valley. But with California land prices climbing ever skyward, the couple opted to pursue their new venture in Washington’s (then) little-known Red Mountain district.
Keith was a trained geologist and had studied oenology, so he set about clearing the land, drilling wells and planting grapevines. ReNae had studied accounting in school... so she learned how to fit irrigation pipes. All pretty romantic stuff!
Today, the Pilgrims’ Arch Terrace wines from their Terra Blanca Estate Vineyard are coveted by wine lovers throughout the Northwest. One taste of the 2008 Arch Terrace Merlot, and it’s easy to understand why. It’s a medium-bodied, easy-drinking wine, made with love.
Similar to Cabernet Sauvignon but with less tannin and fruit. Delivers earlier maturing wines. Often blended with Cabernet; on its own may soften with age, though fruit flavors may fade.
