About This Wine

Two Napa Valley vineyards contribute to the acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon from Far Niente.

The 100-acre Martin Stelling Vineyard, located behind the winery in Oakville, is the cornerstone of the Cabernet program. Planted on gravelly loam soil, the vineyard is composed of two distinct areas.

The lower portion uniformly produces wines with supple, sweet tannins and bright, forward fruit. Halter Valley, which is the extension of the vineyard that starts into the foothills of the Mayacamas, is composed of gently rolling knolls. This section includes more diverse individual blocks that provide wines of great tannin and structure.

The cuvee also receives a small contribution from the Sullenger Vineyard at nearby Nickel & Nickel. And in 2008, the grapes from those two vineyards produced a wine that’s concentrated and fruit-forward, with a long, lingering finish. Martin Stelling and Sullenger both are worthy of single-vineyard bottlings, but the melding of fruit from the two is truly magical in the mouth.

About Cabernet Sauvignon

Deep color and richness with the potential to age a long time, and better still if aged in oak before bottling. Classic flavors blackcurrant, plum, cherry and spice. The most popular varietal of red wine in America.

Shows the elegance and pedigree that this estate vineyard, in the heart of the Oakville bench, always shows. The tannins are sweet and ripe, and the wine brims with luscious blackberry, cassis and mocha flavors, accented with new oak that’s flashy, yet perfectly in keeping with the wine’s volume. Should slowly mature over the years.
