About This Wine

Five partners. More than a century of experience.

That, in a nutshell, is the story of Berton Vineyard, founded by Bob and Cherie Berton, and joined by Paul Bartholomaeus, James Ceccato and Jamie Bennett. Their experience spans the full spectrum of the wine business: grape growing, winemaking, marketing and finance.

Those last two categories may not be all that “romantic,” but they are keys to bringing high-quality Australian wines to the American marketplace. In crafting the wine known as “The Black” Shiraz, agreements were struck with growers throughout South Eastern Australia, assuring top-quality grapes that could be made into exceptional wines at consumer-friendly prices.

“Australian Shiraz has forged an enviable reputation for huge, unrestrained flavors that are exemplified by this wine,” says winemaker Ceccato, adding that “The Black” Shiraz is “an extreme example of this style with its deep color and huge palate.” It just may be the perfect wine for a summer barbecue.

About Shiraz

Very dark, rich, powerful wines with great aging potential (as long as 50 years), yet still can be drunk relatively young. Distinct pepper, spice, cherry and leather flavors, with smooth, supple texture. Embodied in majestic wines from France, Australia and, increasingly, California.
