About This Wine
During the last two decades of the 20th century, the Wine Cask was a destination.
Founded in 1981 by Doug Margerum and his family, the Wine Cask was a combination restaurant and wine shop, and a “must stop” on any wine lover’s visit to California’s Central Coast. Situated in downtown Santa Barbara, it provided the perfect place to unwind after a long day of sightseeing and shopping.
In 2001, Margerum took the next logical step: He founded Margerum Wine Company, and began making wine in quantities large enough for commercial release. In 2007, he sold the Wine Cask, and began devoting all of his energies to the production and promotion of Margerum wines, and raising his two children.
“M5” is Margerum’s sought-after blend of five grape varieties native to the Rhone region of France. The 2010 vintage is quite complex, expertly melding fruit and earth flavors into a cuvee that pairs perfectly with grilled meats.

Expert Ratings
(a blend of syrah and petite sirah): Inky ruby. Musky aromas and flavors of dark berries, smoked meat, violet, olive and cracked pepper. Fleshy and creamy but focused, with firm underlying structure; comes off like a northern Rhone wine. Finishes sweet and smoky, with very good persistence.
