About This Wine
Even on a single estate, grapes grown in different plots or sections can make very different wines.
And so it is with the “Bench Vineyards” bottling of Merlot from Pedroncelli, a family-owned estate that dates back to 1927. The Pedrocelli vineyard is located in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley, and selected blocks of that vineyard have been designated “Bench Vineyards” by senior winemaker John Pedroncelli.
“The name describes the natural terraces that flank the valley and rise gradually into the steep hills,” Pedroncelli explains. “Characterized by sloped topography and gravelly/rocky residual soils, the unique growing conditions bring out the best in our Merlot.”
The 2009 “Bench Vineyards” Merlot is a lush, full-bodied wine with soft tannins (which means no additional bottle aging is necessary) and a lasting finish (which will keep you coming back for more). Pedroncelli believes in letting wine speak for itself, and this wine speaks volumes for the wisdom of that approach.
Similar to Cabernet Sauvignon but with less tannin and fruit. Delivers earlier maturing wines. Often blended with Cabernet; on its own may soften with age, though fruit flavors may fade.

Cabernet Sauvignon Ice Cream Our friends at Alexander Valley Vineyards came up with this wonderful recipe a few years ago. We've tried it with Cabernet Sauvignon (as the recipe calls for), as well as Merlot, Primitivo, Cabernet Franc and Zinfandel... and every time, it turns out delicious! It's best made with an ice cream maker, and if you have such a machine, it's extremely easy to assemble. Enjoy!
