About This Wine

“We set out to build a family winery, making premium wines true to their terroir.”

So says Launny Steffens, who founded Vineyard 7 & 8 with wife Weezie in 1999. Aficionados of fine food and wine, they decided to turn their passion into a small business, and procured the skills of vineyard manager Pete Richmond and winemaker Luc Morlet to help them realize their dream.

The family’s vineyard sits atop Napa Valley’s Spring Mountain, and is planted to 10 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and four acres of Chardonnay. At some 2,000 feet above sea level, the vineyard is above the fog line, which accommodates extended ripening and low yields — two keys to highly concentrated wines.

Morlet aged the 2009 “7” Cabernet Sauvignon for a year-and-a-half in French oak barrels prior to bottling, lending even more complexity to an already personality-filled wine. It’s just the style of wine Launny and Weezie Steffans envisioned making.

About Cabernet Sauvignon

Deep color and richness with the potential to age a long time, and better still if aged in oak before bottling. Classic flavors blackcurrant, plum, cherry and spice. The most popular varietal of red wine in America.
