About This Wine
The name of Ampelos Cellars was not chosen haphazardly.
The owners selected it because ampelos is the Greek word for vine, and they believe that all great wines begin in the vineyard. They also were married on a small Greek island, and because they fell so in love with that island, they built a small bed-and-breakfast inn there.
The Ampelos Cellars team believes that respecting the environment is essential to producing excellent wines. In fact, Ampelos was one of the first wineries in the U.S. to be certified for its sustainability efforts, its organic farming and its Biodynamic efforts.
During the 2010 harvest season in California’s Sta. Rita Hills area — the home of Ampelos — each cluster of grapes was inspected by hand on a mobile sorting table to assure that only the best fruit was okayed for fermentation. The finished wine is voluptuous and delicious... and proof that great wines absolutely do begin in the vineyard.
About Pinot Noir
Very sensitive to climate and handling in winery, this fickle grape of Burgundy yields low tannin and acidity, medium colors and lifespan. Classic berry, cherry and currant flavors, silky textures typically balanced with spicy or floral tones.

Expert Ratings
Bright ruby-red. Intensely perfumed scents of red and dark berries, incense and allspice, with a sexy floral topnote. The juicy palate shows very good clarity to the sappy black raspberry and cherry flavors. Seamless and silky on the finish, with the red berry and spice notes echoing. Packs a serious punch but carries no excess weight--and delicious right now.
