About This Wine
Margarita Vineyard is the southernmost vineyard in the Paso Robles growing area.
It’s just 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean, and it’s home to a variety of soils, including ancient sea bed, sedimentary and shale. This is the vineyard of Ancient Peaks Winery, which utilizes that soil diversity to grow expressive winegrapes that vintner Mike Sinor transforms into world-class cuvees.
Take the 2010 Ancient Peaks Cabernet Sauvignon, as an example. The Cabernet grapes come from four blocks of the vineyard, two of which contribute intensely flavored fruit, and two of which yield fruit with firmer structure and tannins. Sinor then adds small amounts of Cabernet Franc (for its floral red fruit aroma), Malbec (for its juicy quality) and Petit Verdot (for structure and color intensity).
The finished wine is dense, layered and plush, with a long, luscious finish — a beautifully balanced, Bordeaux-style blend from a very special vineyard and a very talented vintner.
About Cabernet Sauvignon
Deep color and richness with the potential to age a long time, and better still if aged in oak before bottling. Classic flavors blackcurrant, plum, cherry and spice. The most popular varietal of red wine in America.
