About This Wine
In Italy, heritage is a source of pride.
At Maso Canali, the heritage is extraordinary. The 500-year-old estate, set against a backdrop of the towering Dolomite Mountains, has been home to vineyards since the Middle Ages. Today, members of the Canali family still reside there, growing high-quality grapes for the acclaimed Maso Canali Pinot Grigio.
The fruit from the family vineyard is so distinctive that, in ancient times, armed guards watched over the vines. The fruit for the 2009 vintage was drawn from that vineyard and other carefully chosen sources in Italy’s premier Trentino region.
All fruit used in the Maso Canali Pinot Grigio represent “late harvest” or “surmaturo” grapes. About one-tenth of the cuvee is from grapes dried on racks for eight weeks, vinified separately, then added to the final blend. This time-intensive process gives the wine its unique body, complexity and tropical fruit flavor. You can taste the Canali heritage in every sip.
About Pinot Grigio
In northeast Italy it makes a light, crisp and neutral wine. In Alsace it can be a delicately perfumed, honey-flavored wine, either dry or sweet, and with more color than most whites.
