About This Wine
Have you climbed aboard the Merlot bandwagon yet?
If not, this 2011 vintage from Dublin Ranch may motivate you to do so. California Merlot consumption was 19.1 million cases in 2009 in the U.S., growing dramatically from 2.8 million cases in 1994. What’s behind Merlot’s popularity?
Consumers new to the variety may be trying red wine because of frequent news reports linking moderate drinking to a healthy lifestyle. Also, white and blush wine drinkers may be expanding their preferences to red. Merlot could be the choice in both instances because of its approachable and luscious character — a trait appealing to virtually all red wine drinkers.
“Approachable and luscious” is an apt assessment of the 2011 Dublin Ranch Merlot. The Merlot grapes were sourced from quality-focused growers up and down the state of California, and small amounts of other varieties were added to round out the cuvee. And as for that bandwagon... it’s time to hop on.
About Merlot
Similar to Cabernet Sauvignon but with less tannin and fruit. Delivers earlier maturing wines. Often blended with Cabernet; on its own may soften with age, though fruit flavors may fade.
