About This Wine
He is known as “the godfather of American Moscato.”
Craig Reed has been making Moscato for more than 20 years. He’s experienced with countless members of the very large Muscat grape family, and first encountered Black Muscat while in Italy, where it’s known as Moscato di Amburgo.
Reed says he loved that wine and thought to himself, “I can make that.” But to do so, he needed to find a California vineyard that grew the variety — and did a good job with it. That challenge solved, he was able to craft a wine that he lovingly calls “Moscato Bella.”
Reed notes that the 2014 vintage “is slightly effervescent, which lifts and brightens it, making it crisper and a more versatile food wine.” It can be enjoyed before a meal as a palate cleanser, during a meal (with Chinese or Thai food, chicken or chili verde), or after a meal “as or with dessert.”
