About This Wine

There is nothing “petite” about Petite Sirah.

One of the most misunderstood of all wine varieties — no doubt because of its name — Petite Sirah also is not a less-robust version of Syrah (note the difference in spelling). It is its own, unique variety that historically has been grown only in California.

Petite Sirah was something of a mystery grape until “DNA fingerprinting” came along. In 2003, that science solved the mystery — to some degree. Many vineyards thought to be devoted exclusively to Petite Sirah actually were home to several varieties, including Durif, Peloursin and, just to add to the intrigue, some Syrah.

Now that all of that has been sorted out, and we know which vines are producing which varieties, we can enjoy Petite Sirah for all that it offers — including a “chewy” mouthfeel that makes it perfect for pairing with pepperoni pizza or a juicy steak.

About Petite Sirah

Petite Sirah can be described as black peppery, but can mostly be described as "vinous" and, agreeable, pleasant, and sometimes delicious, not highly distinctive. Wines made from Petite Sirah age slowly and can survive fairly long cellaring of ten years or more.
