So it is with the wines of Laurent Icard, the winemaker for Laurent de l’Olibet, a man who utilizes grapes from his own estate to craft wines of exceptional quality. The estate is located in Saint Georges d’Orgues, part of France’s Languedoc-Roussillon region.
Laurent can produce documents indicating the village has existed since the 10th century, and was widely famed for its wines by the 16th century. Over the centuries, many different varieties were grown there, but we now know that the chalky red soils provide an ideal setting for cultivating Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.
The hot Mediterranean sun helps ensure that the fruit attains full maturity, and that provides Icard with the “raw materials” for crafting truly special wines. Wines like this 2015 Cabernet, which offers an abundance of drinking pleasure with its juicy berry flavors.
