About This Wine
The farther we go back in history, the more challenging it can be to verify the accuracy of recorded accounts.
For instance, we can note with confidence that one of the most renowned wines of ancient Rome was known as “Falernian.” What we can’t be totally sure about is what kind of grapes were used in making that wine — although it’s generally agreed that one of them likely was Falanghina.
That’s because we know Falanghina is an ancient grape that was around during that period. It endured through the centuries, but during the late 1900s, other varieties commanded greater interest as wine consumption became more and more influenced by a wine media focused on other varieties.
More recently, however, Falanghina has enjoyed a comeback, and Scorpeta makes an outstanding rendition of the variety — rich, soft, floral and bright. It’s a wine deserving of a special place in the history of Italian wine.
