About This Wine
Long before there was the science of “viticulture,” there was the field blend.
Grapes of various varieties were planted haphazardly, and when harvest time rolled around, all were picked and fermented together. There’s a nod to that tradition in the 2013 Beltane Ranch Zinfandel, which includes a 5-percent dollop of a field blend.
There’s nothing haphazard about the blending process, however. Using the science of viticulture, we now know that the three grape varieties in the field blend are Alicante Bouschet, Petite Sirah and Carignane. When combined with the Zinfandel fruit from the Beltane Ranch estate vineyard in the heart of the Sonoma Valley, the resulting wine is special.
The first grapevines on the ranch were planted in 1879, and today the vineyard continues to be sustainably farmed. The 2013 Beltane Ranch Zinfandel — of which only 15 barrels were produced — is a perfectly balanced, soft, approachable and delicious cuvee.
California's own grape variety. Red Zinfandel (not to be confused with "white" Zinfandel) can produce full-bodied wines packed with ripe berry fruit and smooth tannins. Flavors of blackberries and spicy pepper.

We've tried it with Cabernet Sauvignon as the recipe calls for, as well as Merlot, Primitivo, Cabernet Franc and Zinfandel... and every time, it turns out delicious! It's best made with an ice cream maker, and if you have such a machine, it's extremely easy to assemble. Enjoy! Get The Recipe
