About This Wine

Some have called Gewurztraminer a “grown-up version of Moscato.”

During the last quarter of the 20th century, White Zinfandel served as the “entry level” wine for many people. Not quite a decade into the 21st century, it was joined by Moscato — traditional Italian versions, as well as wines made in other countries with the Muscat family of grapes.

Gewurztraminer and Moscato share a number of aroma and flavor qualities, but Gewurztraminer tends to be fuller in body, slightly higher in alcohol and slightly lower in acid. Whereas Moscato has emerged as a go-to party wine, Gewurztraminer is better suited for accompanying food.

Tarrica Wine Cellars, founded by California wine legend Sam Balakian in 1999, crafts its Gewurztraminer in a lightly sweet style, making it an ideal companion to spicy Indian or Middle Eastern cuisine. Pour a glass of Moscato as an apetitif, then open up Tarrica’s Gewurztraminer when dinner is served.
