About This Wine
Puglia is known primarily for two things: olive oil and wine.
The region forms the “heel” of Italy’s “boot,” and inland from its cherished coastline, it’s home to whitewashed hill towns that overlook vast expanses of olive tree groves and vineyards. Puglia (a.k.a. Apulia) experiences a dry heat that’s ideal for growing olives and grapes — which explains why 50% of Italy’s olive oil and about 17% of its wine is made there.
Those high air temperatures are moderated by cool breezes off the Mediterranean, providing evening and overnight “relief” to the grapevines during the growing season. That’s how they are able to produce perfectly ripened grapes that the local vintners can use to make expressive wines.
The 2015 Il Bello is such a wine. Crafted from Puglia-grown Sangiovese grapes, it’s a bright and delicious expression of Italian winemaking craftsmanship and Puglia’s exceptional setting for producing world-class wines.
Medium to full, dry, light spiced wine that ages well. Core of many great Italian wines including Brunnedllo di Montalcino, a rare, costly Tuscan red wine loaded with luscious fruits and chewy tannins.
