About This Wine
California’s city of Monterey has been famous for a long time.
Its cannery row — once the center of the sardine-packing industry but now populated by shops and restaurants — was immortalized in John Steinbeck’s novel, “The Grapes of Wrath.” These days, it’s also noted for its seaside aquarium, with thousands of marine animals and plants on display in underwater and interactive exhibits.
A bit farther inland, Monterey is an agricultural hub, with a great deal of acreage devoted to vineyards. Because of its proximity to the cool breezes of the Pacific, this is an area where Chardonnay grapes thrive.
Aurelia Cellars crafts an outstanding rendition of Chardonnay from Monterey County fruit. The 2016 vintage is full bodied, rich and creamy, with a long and rich finish. It makes an outstanding pairing partner for seafood, and its creaminess makes it absolutely perfect for drinking with macadamia-crusted opah (moonfish) in beurre blanc butter.
Relatively easy to grow in a variety of locations. Consistently produces some of the world's great white wines. Complex, full, rich and fruity with soft edges and moderate acidity. Offers rich and intense fruit flavors of apple, fig, melon, pear, peach, pineapple, along with creamy yeast spice, honey, butter and hazelnut flavors.
