About This Wine
Matias Lecaros is well known and respected in the winemaking circles of Chile.
As the vintner for El Guardian, Lecaros assembles cuvees that are noteworthy for their engaging aromas, delicious flavors and impeccable balance. His wines never have one aroma or flavor element that stands out above the rest; rather, all of the aroma and flavor impressions marry seamlessly into an engaging “whole.”
That’s certainly true of the 2016 El Guardian Merlot, which was crafted from grapes grown in the Curico area of Chile’s Central Valley. Lecaros describes the wine’s color as “vibrant red with hints of purple,” and notes that the cuvee is “generous and easy drinking.”
Early “approachability” is a hallmark of great Merlot, and this is a wine that requires no additional cellaring or time on the wine rack. It is another Matias Lecaros masterpiece, crafted with care and the perfect pairing partner for a Cuban style braised steak and peppers
Similar to Cabernet Sauvignon but with less tannin and fruit. Delivers earlier maturing wines. Often blended with Cabernet; on its own may soften with age, though fruit flavors may fade.
