Actually, the wine-drinking experience begins with the eyes, and the 2016 Louwala “Pavot Rouge” will entice you with its deep garnet color. Once you’ve poured the wine in a glass, breathe in deeply and experience the aromas of cherries, cola and mocha.
In the mouth, the wine is, as one member of our tasting panel described it, “huge.” It coats the palate with flavors similar to the aforementioned aromas, joined by an engaging note of vanilla. That vanilla flavor follows all the way through the finish, as the wine seems to beg for another sip.
Because this wine is so big and relatively young, it may take a few minutes to “open up” in your glass and reveal its full array of aromas and flavors. You can speed that process via decanting. Either way, you’re in for a wonderful wine-drinking experience.
