Brand: Bramble Ridge Winery
About This Wine:
If you’ve ever had a white wine labeled “Vouvray,” you’ve probably had Chenin Blanc. The variety also is widely planted in South Africa, where it sometimes goes by the name of Steen.
But in the United States, there is no “identity crisis” for this under-the-radar variety. Here, it’s known simply by its name: Chenin Blanc. As is the case in France and South Africa, it’s a versatile variety that can be made in an array of styles, from dry to sweet and even sparkling.
Clarksburg, located in Northern California’s Delta region outside of Sacramento, has become a dependable source of Chenin Blanc grapes. For the 2016 Bramble Ridge Chenin Blanc, award-winning winemaker Joe Otos crafted a sublime rendition that is almost dry, yet shows a slight sweetness that lingers on the palate. If you love sweet-and-sour Asian cuisine, this is your go-to wine.
