About This Wine:

For instance, in Southern California, there is the annual return of the swallows to Mission San Juan Capistrano. Farther up the coast, San Luis Obispo County is known for an annual infiltration of monarch butterflies, which arrive via updrafts of warm air.

Each year, fans of the butterfly flock to Pismo Beach and other areas of San Luis Obispo County with binoculars, cameras and smartphones in hand. More recently, however, the Monarch migration numbers have been decreasing, and the county’s reputation for winemaking has been spreading.

At Bodega Mariposa, homage is paid to the butterfly that made the county famous through a delicious Syrah-based blend called “Monarch Red.” The wine is quite complex, showcasing an array of berry — blue, red and black — aromas and flavors. And the chocolate-kissed finish makes the wine unforgettable… just like the sight of migrating Monarchs.
