About This Wine:
It’s generally accepted that the Uco Valley is the premier grape growing area in Argentina. La Consulta is a small wine-growing sub-region in the southern Uco Valley of Mendoza, and is the home of Altocedro.
Proprietor and winemaker Karim Mussi Saffie uses sustainable growing practices to produce limited amounts of terroir-driven wines. The vines range up to 100 years of age, and all harvesting, sorting and crushing are done in individual batches by hand. Thanks to all that attention to detail, Altocedro has become synonymous with outstanding La Consulta wine.
Each year, Saffie makes a “Reserva” wine from multiple vineyards. Only in the best vintages is a “Finca Los Tanos” wine made from grapes grown in a single estate vineyard, and 2011 was one of those years. Only 112 cases of this special wine were allocated for the U.S., which means it’s collectible in addition to being delectable.
