About This Wine:
Nine out of 10 are likely to answer Montepulciano. That could be because the one truly fine wine made there is Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. At its best, the Montepulciano grape can produce wines that are dry, rich, powerful and dark in color.
Montepulciano can be grown in most of Italy but Abruzzo is, by far, its largest producer. Abruzzo is located in central Italy, and stretches from the heart of the Apennines to the Adriatic Sea, on a mostly mountainous and wild terrain. Narrow valleys and impressive, natural paths thrust their way into the mountains and hills, with vineyards planted on many of the hillsides.
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is known as a food-friendly wine because of its naturally high acidity, and our tasting panel recommends rigatoni Bolognese as a pairing partner for Scoperta’s 2017 vintage. The wine also would pair nicely with beef, pork and veal dishes.
