About This Wine:
In Barcelona or Madrid or any other city large enough to be home to hundreds of dining establishments, the locals typically walk from restaurant to bar to café, noshing on each location’s specialty. Many drink small tumblers of the house Tempranillo to wash down the food.
Tempranillo is the best known red wine in Spain. “Temprano” means early in Spanish, and the name Tempranillo refers to the early time the grape has traditionally been harvested. Tempranillo also is known as Tinto Fino in Ribera del Duero, Cencibel in La Mancha and Ull de Llebre in Catalonia. Its true home, however, is La Rioja.
Tempranillo produces fresh and fruitful young wines, but also can age nicely, especially when it spends some time in oak barrels prior to bottling. The 2017 Marques de Castillo Tempranillo is a gorgeous dark garnet in hue and an ideal pairing partner for tapas.
