About This Wine:
But it’s actually a French grape, used to craft the so-called “black wines” of Cahors in southwest France. The wines of the Lot Valley (Cotes du Lot) almost without exception are nearly black in hue. Through history, they were loved by Roman emperors, popes, kings and Russian czars.
Cahors is made from Malbec — usually 100% or occasionally blended with a small amount of Merlot or Tannat grapes. The best soils for the variety are red with limestone pebbles, which store the sun's heat and release it during the night. The grapes for this wine were grown in the vineyards of the famed Chateau Croze de Pys.
While sharing some characteristics with Argentine Malbec, Cahors is a much different wine with more assertive aromas and flavors. The 2018 vintage from Le Petit Nicolas is youthful, bright, fresh and delicious.
