About This Wine:

In 1998, they purchased a vineyard property, now known as Derbyshire Vineyard, and their thoughts of retirement were replaced by the inspiration of being part of the wine world. Next, Ray acquired the historic Laura’s Vineyard (in east Paso) and then a Westside property now called Derby Vineyard.

Laura’s Vineyard had been wiped out by phylloxera in the mid-1990s and was replanted in 1997. The Derby family acquired the property in 2001 and has been farming it since. Its location on the warm east side of Paso Robles is ideal for the Bordeaux varieties planted on the 278-acre estate.

This “Vineyard Select Series” wine is a blend of two Bordeaux varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The San Francisco Chronicle bestowed Double Gold Medal recognition upon it, which is easy to understand given its complexity, delicious flavors and long finish.
