About This Wine:
It grew from a seed he extracted from fruit of an old French variety called Peloursin. Dr. Durif didn’t know the pollen source at the time, but we now know that it was Syrah. The combination of Peloursin and Syrah resulted in grapes with saturated color and very dense fruit clusters.
Fast forward to 1996. At the University of California at Davis, Dr. Carole Meredith determined via DNA comparisons that more than 90% of the vines in Petite Sirah vineyards are Durif, while the rest are Peloursin (the mother of Durif). But the Petite Sirah name has stuck, and California Petite Sirah acreage has grown to more than 4,000 acres.
The 2017 vintage of 3 Muses Petite Sirah is a full-bodied and juicy wine. You may choose to call it Durif, but we call it delicious.
