About This Wine:
He grew up working frequently at his uncle’s vineyard in Napa Valley, and enrolled at the University of California at Davis when he was just 17, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Fermentation Science.
After gaining experience in Napa, Rob took a leap of faith and traveled to Washington state, where grape growers were considered pioneers. That decision developed into a prosperous career alongside his wife Deborah. The Griffins established Barnard Griffin Winery in 1983 with a small truckload of borrowed fruit and a rented cellar, ultimately becoming one of Washington’s most honored estates.
The grapes for the 2017 Barnard Griffin Syrah came from the Desert Aire Vineyard, and possess some of the most expressive fruit flavor found in Washington. Think of it as a mix of the refined acidity and structure of French Malbec, and the bright definitional fruit for which Australian Syrah/Shiraz is noted.
