About This Wine:

Monticello Vineyards, located in the Oak Knoll District of California’s Napa Valley, had a well-established record of success with growing Merlot and Cabernet Franc on its estate vineyard. Then some special clones of Syrah from France’s Rhone Valley became available.

The winery owners jumped at the opportunity to purchase them, and the Syrah was planted in the Knollwood Vineyard, just across the road from their estate vineyard. The planting design has resulted in well-balanced grapevines, and the meticulous farming practices have produced fruit of exceptional quality on a consistent basis.

That’s certainly true of the 2014 vintage, as the “Corley Family Estate” Syrah is a benchmark bottling of the variety, with a spicy and peppery nose, a rich and full-bodied palate, and a long and lingering finish. It’s a wine borne of happenstance, and made legendary by a highly respected estate.
