About This Wine:
France restricts the use of that designation to wines made in the Champagne appellation of the country. But outstanding bubbly also is crafted in other parts of France, including the Loire Valley.
There, vigneron Jeremie Huchet farms vineyards in the Sevre et Maine area, growing some very expressive Melon de Bourgogne (a.k.a. Muscadet) grapes. He bottles a number of wines based on the soil type of the grapes’ origin, including this wonderful Brut Nature dubbed “La Bretesche.”
The Bretesche vineyard is situated along the slopes of the Sevre River, where the soil is sandy and mineral-rich gneiss. Brut Nature is a term used to denote the very driest style of sparkling wine, with less than three grams of residual sugar per liter. Huchet demonstrates a deft touch with the land, the grape variety and the style of wine, crafting a bubbly beauty that rivals the best of Champagne.
