About This Wine:
Jacques Brochet, who grew up in the Champagne region of France, understood this from an early age. In 1990, when he had the opportunity to acquire the Champagne house of Delahaie from his uncle, George Delahaie, he jumped at the chance — not only to keep the family business alive, but to put his own stamp on its wines.
Delahaie had taken over his parents’ vineyards in Epernay in 1959, and used those 8 acres of grapevines to establish a reputation throughout France for expressive sparking wine. Brochet built upon that legacy of quality by bringing in oak barrels and modifying the blends. By entering into a partnership to acquire additional grapes each harvest season, he has been able to expand Delahaie’s reach to a wider audience.
The non-vintage Delahaie “Brut Premier” is a good example of Brochet’s style. Bright and refreshing, it’s certain to enhance the Delahaie legacy.
