About This Wine:
Tenimenti Della Scala uses black-skinned Negroamaro grapes grown in Puglia to craft its “Appassimento” Negroamaro. “Appassimento” is the Italian term for drying grapes, typically on bamboo racks, to concentrate their flavors and sugar levels. Using this winemaking method is fairly rare with Negroamaro grapes, which more commonly are used to bolster lower-alcohol varieties.
There are several theories about the origins of the Negroamaro name. The most likely explanation is that it derives from the fusion of the Greek and Latin words, both meaning “black” and referring to the color of the grapes. In other words, Negroamaro actually means black-black.
Our tasting panel described the 2017 Tenimenti Della Scala Negroamaro with words like luxurious and decadent. It’s a flavor-packed wine that pairs perfectly with spicy sticky ribs, pulled pork sandwiches or teriyaki chicken.
