About This Wine:
There’s the Castello Svevo, built by Emperor Frederick II and noted for its square towers. There’s the Church of San Benedetto, with its bell tower and 11th-century motifs. The list goes on.
Just outside the historic city, vineyards cover the landscape. From those vines came the grapes used to craft this “Riserva” wine from Tor del Colle. It’s a Negroamaro-based cuvee that includes small portions of Malvasia Nera and Sangiovese.
Negroamaro is a black grape variety grown in Puglia, especially in the southern part of the region, including Brindisi. As with some other Italian varieties, the origins of Negroamaro are uncertain, although many believe it was brought to Italy by Greek colonists during the 8th century, B.C. Regardless of its origin, the 2015 Tor del Colle bottling makes it obvious that Brindisi is a perfect home for Negroamaro.
