2016 La Puerta Alta Famatina Valley, Argentina 'Estate, Organic' Malbec/Cabernet Sauvignon

That’s certainly true at La Puerta Alta, where winemaker Javier Collovati has access to some of the finest fruit in South America, grown in Argentina’s famed high-altitude Famatina Valley vineyards. And he makes full use of that fruit, creating varietal wines and multi-variety cuvees that are known far and wide for expressing the special character of the region.

In the case of the 2016 La Puerta Alta Red Blend, Collovati decided early on that he’d be using Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon exclusively. But he still needed to determine how much of each. After a series of trials and tasting sessions, he ultimately opted for a 50:50 ratio.

That decision, along with aging in a mix of French and American oak barrels, resulted in a wine that emphasizes bright berry flavors. It’s an expressive wine from an exceptional growing region, crafted by a passionate vintner.
