2019 Tuakana Marlborough, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc

That occurred during the decade of the 1980s when the region’s exquisite Sauvignon Blanc wines found their way onto American supermarket shelves. That success led to a major expansion of Sauvignon Blanc vineyard plantings in the region, which is located at the northeastern tip of the country’s South Island.

Today, just under 50,000 acres — around two-thirds of the national total — are under the care of local wine producers, making Marlborough the country's largest wine region. A combination of a cool yet high sunshine climate, low rainfall and free-draining, moderately fertile soil produces uniquely vivid wines.
