About This Wine:
In fact, it represents more than 90 percent of the grapes planted in that region. The high quality of Albarino wines and an increasing interest in Spanish wine in general has resulted in the variety finding a home in various other parts of the world — primarily cool-climate areas.
These include New Zealand, where it has begun to compete with Sauvignon Blanc for varietal supremacy, and the Edna Valley area of California’s Central Coast region. Running east to west, the valley is both sheltered and shadowed by the Santa Lucia Mountains.
Jason Bushong, who has worked with a wide array of varieties over the course of his winemaking career, loves Edna Valley-grown Albariño for its layered aromatics, mineral-driven finish, and versatility with food. He suggests pouring Bushong Cellars’ 2019 vintage alongside your favorite spicy fare or rich seafood dishes.
