About This Wine:
What’s the difference between the vin gris method and the traditional rosé method? With vin gris wines, there is almost no maceration time. Since a wine’s color comes from the skins of the grapes used to make it, that’s why the 2019 Melifluo Rosé is such a soft pink/salmon in hue.
The grapes typically used to make vin gris-style rosés are darker skinned but delicate, such as Pinot Noir, Gamay and Grenache. For its 2019 North Coast Rosé, the Melifluo vintner opted for the Grenache variety, which traces its roots to Spain, has significant plantings in France’s Southern Rhone, and also has numerous fans among growers and winemakers in California.
It’s easy to fall in love with this crisp wine, which does double-duty as a refreshing aperitif and a wonderful companion to food. Sometimes, simple can be spectacular.
