About This Wine:
It’s called Saint-Genis-du-Bois, located in the Gironde department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France. Fewer than 100 people live there. And that is the home of Chateau Petit Freylon, an estate that belonged to the Lagrange family for generations until 2011, when it was purchased by La Société PESA.
Since then, the new owners have invested heavily in the chateau’s winemaking facilities, installing new tanks, barrels and thermo-vinification systems. This investment has earned the new generation of wines several medals at prestigious competitions, including the Concours Agricolein Paris and the Concours de Bordeaux.
The estate vineyard spans 75 acres, 20 of which are within the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation. Its winemaker uses the special grapes from this vineyard to craft a “Cuvee Michael” that is delightfully fruity — a wine from a small place that makes a big impression.
