About This Wine:
The family estate was given as a christening present to Claire Feueheerd, Sophia’s grandmother, in 1906. The family’s Port-shipping company was sold in the 1930s, but La Rosa was kept and run by Claire. In 1988, Sophia and her father, Tim Bergqvist, restarted the family business and launched Quinta de la Rosa.
The Bergqvists helped pioneer a quality approach to table wine production in Portugal’s Douro region. Their estate is situated on the banks of the River Douro, and all eight of their vineyards are A-graded. All Quinta de la Rosa wines are estate grown, estate produced and estate bottled.
The Quinta de la Rosa “house” style is to make elegant wines without too much tannin or oak. They’re rich and full-bodied while maintaining freshness and good acidity — the 2016 “douRosa” being a delicious example.
