About This Wine:
The wine is Tinta de Toro, a.k.a. Tempranillo. The region is Toro, which is situated in Castilla y Leon in northwestern Spain. The grape variety is becoming increasingly known for the powerful, full-bodied red wines it produces.
Tinta de Toro is named for the town of Toro, an ancient settlement that’s located 40 miles east of the Portuguese border. It straddles the Duero River, which bisects the region’s northern half, and its origins date back to Roman times around the second century, B.C.
After the phylloxera plague in the 19th century, most Spanish vineyards were replanted. But Tinta de Toro survived, and today there are some vines that are more than 150 years old. The wines are appreciated for their quality, balance, intense ruby color, and delicate aromas and flavors of berries. Viore’s “5 Meses en Barrica” celebrates Tinta de Toro’s engaging personality and spreading reputation.
