2018 Silver Pony Red Hills Lake County, California Cabernet Sauvignon
A gorgeous, layered, long-finishing Cabernet from one of California’s under-the-radar wine regions.
About This Wine:
It’s also home to some not-so-famous regions that deserve a higher profile. One is Red Hills Lake County, where dramatic high-elevation volcanic hillsides produce intense mountain fruit with great color and structure.
Located in the northern Mayacamas Mountains, the Red Hills of Lake County frame the southwest edge of Clear Lake. The vineyard elevations range from 1,350 to 2,600 feet, with the majority of the AVA’s acreage planted at or higher than 2,000 feet. Higher elevations and Lake County’s pure air allow for greater levels of UV light — as much as 10% more than neighboring sea-level valleys. This UV triggers thicker grape skins, greater tannins and intense wines.
One such wine is the 2018 Silver Pony Cabernet Sauvignon, which has a gorgeous garnet hue, layered fruit and spice notes on the palate, and a long, flavorful finish. It’s a wine that really should be famous.
