About This Wine:

Do you love Merlot? The great red wines of Bordeaux and Napa Valley are based on those two varieties. But they have something else in common, and it has to do with one of their common blending partners.

That partner is Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Franc is the parent grape of both Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. (It’s also the parent grape of the rare Hondarribi Beltza, found primarily in Spain’s Basque region — but that’s another variety for another day.) While most vintners use Cabernet Franc to elevate varietal Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot wines by adding a peppery impression, others prefer to bottle it on its own.

The 2018 Old School Lane Cellars Cabernet Franc showcases chocolate and vanilla impressions that jump out of the glass. Then, as the wine reaches the palate, a wide spectrum of berry flavors emerge. It’s a gorgeous wine that deliciously stands on its own.
