About This Wine:

But there are excellent Tempranillo (pronounced temp-rah-nee-yo) bottlings made each year in Portugal, Argentina, Australia and the United States as well, including this 2018 vintage from California’s Cross Creek Winery.

Cross Creek sourced its Tempranillo fruit from Dunnigan Hills, an aptly named growing region of the great Central Valley that is noted for its gently rolling hills and grape-friendly Mediterranean climate. There, the exceptional 2018 growing season produced perfectly ripened grapes, enabling Cross Creek’s vintner to craft a full-bodied wine that seamlessly marries the fruit and oak notes.

Indeed, this is a big Tempranillo in terms of its weight and mouthfeel. Broad and beautifully structured, it’s an excellent (not to mention delicious) example of the variety that calls for equally “big” dish as a pairing partner. For a special treat that you definitely would not experience every day, try it with mushroom-stuffed quail.
