2020 Iron Rock Cellars California Rosé

Some rosés are made entirely from one grape variety, while others — such as those from the southern Rhone Valley of France — may mirror the red table wines of the region and the varietals used to make them. (In the Rhone, those would be Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre.)

But as long as the winemaker has perfectly ripened grapes with which to work, any number of varieties can be utilized to craft a tasty and refreshing rosé. For the 2020 vintage, the vintner for Iron Rock Cellars decided to take a “more is better” approach, and included an array of varieties in the “Lot 120” cuvee.

These included Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Zinfandel, Teroldego and Cabernet Franc, among others. Some were selected for color, some for aroma, some for flavor and some for all three. It’s a complex, thirst-quenching cuvee that’s easy to love.
