About This Wine:
This California region produces more than 40% of the state’s premium Zinfandel grapes. Many of Lodi’s most distinctive wines come from the thousands of acres of “old vines,” some dating back to the 1880s.
The Lodi region, inland from San Francisco, boasts a classic Mediterranean climate with warm days and cool evenings. This extends the ripening season, enabling the grapes to develop rich fruit characters while retaining their all-important acidity.
Mineral-rich, free-draining, sandy clay soils offer little resistance to downward growing root systems, and let the vines reach deep into the ground for water and nutrients. As a result, the vines are strong and healthy, producing berries that typically are more concentrated in color and sugars — leading to richer, intense, fruit-driven wines like the 2018 El Tiburon Zinfandel.
