About This Wine:
Alison Crowe, the winemaker for Longhand, couldn’t agree more. “In fact,” she says, “I often say that winemaking is a craft where Mother Nature is your boss.” For that reason, she tracks the progress of the vineyards and grapes on a daily basis throughout the ripening season.
“I record my vineyard and tasting notes in ‘long-hand’ to ascertain the perfect picking window — when we bring the fruit into the winery,” Crowe adds. “The journey of winemaking has so many twists and turns.” Over the years, by recording those nuances, Crowe has developed a sourcebook for virtually anything that could arise during the growing season.
No wonder she is able to craft spectacular wines on a regular basis. The 2017 Longhand Pinot Noir is a delicious example. It’s the result of perfectly ripened grapes, judicious oak aging and a laser-focused vintner.
