2014 Hawk and Horse Vineyards Red Hills, California Cabernet Sauvignon
A sultry California Cabernet that’s ready to enjoy now with food, but built to last for a decade or longer.
Country: United States
Brand: Hawk and Horse Vineyards
Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon
About This Wine:
Yes. Hawk & Horse Vineyards, located in the Red Hills area of California’s Lake County, sits on what once was El Robles Grande Ranch, a former horse breeding facility. Vines were planted in 2001, and the first release in 2004 earned an international gold medal.
Because Lake County is still cowboy country, the winery’s tasting room was located in part of the former horse trainer’s residence, and decorated with antique saddles, tack and other memorabilia. The pastures now are home to a handful of American Saddlebred and American Quarter Horses, as well as Scottish Highlander cattle that provide necessary elements of the biodynamic farming used in the vineyard.
The 2014 Hawk & Horse Cabernet Sauvignon is built to last with its deep, velvety tannins, but also can be enjoyed now. It’s a delicious taste of one of California’s under-the-radar wine regions.
